Sixth Form Co-curriculum

Eighteen of our students were given the opportunity to compete in the Young Citizens Bar Mock Trial where they gained an unparalleled insight into the UK justice system.

Students had roles that ranged from court reporter to barristers and were expected to know their job roles in great depth before applying it to two cases. Students spent weeks independently preparing, practising and supporting each other, as they prepared to face other schools in a regional heat where their skills and knowledge of the cases would be tested.

The students involved were: Eesh B (Juror), Ben J (Barrister), Zeynep K (Barrister),

Aalya D (Witness), Tanisha K (Juror), Sulaiman A (Witness), Humza A (Usher), Conor T (Juror),

Charis W (Court Clerk),

Pranaya L (Barrister),

Layth Y (Barrister)

Callan M (Witness),

Luke S (Witness),

Rhys T (Juror),

Harry E (Juror),

Emyr A (Juror),

Becky B (Court Reporter),

Jenny G (Court Artist.)

The regional heat was held in Stowe School, Buckingham and the pupils had the experience of an overnight stay to maximise their preparation and enhance the experience of the competition. The pupils were incredibly dedicated, supportive and competitive on the day which led them to performing really well on the day. We are so proud of their achievements and how they represented the college. We would also like to recognise the significant contribution of Layth Y in the lead-up to the competition, as he spent hours working alongside the barrister team and supported communication and organisation for the trip.

The Court Artist and Court Reporter competition are running until April, so we hope to provide an update on Jenny's and Becky's progress in the Trinity term.

It was also the last time competing for Luke S, Zeynep K, Callan M and Harry E, after two years in the Bar Mock Trial and Moot team. They will be missed next year!

We look forward to offering this opportunity to the pupils in Lower Sixth and widening the co-curricular provision in Law next academic year!

Thank you to all the pupils, staff and parents who have supported us.

Ms Sanders and Mr Turner
