The Engineering Education Scheme is an initiative that brings together schools and industrial companies so that ‘would-be engineers’, or students that wish to sample this avenue of employment, can work on substantial projects, whilst receiving support from a working engineer.
The team was partnered with a local company, Mott Macdonald Bentley (MMB), in conjunction with Welsh Water. Established in 1999, they are a group of civil engineers focused primarily on work in the water and wastewater sectors.
This year’s project required the students to design a pipeline route from two water treatment centres (from Johnston to Hooke). When doing this, there are a number of prerequisites that have to be met in order for the water to be pumped cost-effectively, sustainably, and successfully.
The team presented incredibly well and received a nomination for “The best application of Mathematics”.
They should be very proud of all the hard work they put into completing this prestigious challenge.
