Nursery

Nursery

At St John’s College Nursery, we create a nurturing haven where your child can feel confident, happy and secure. Our approach to learning is through new and exciting experiences, nurturing friendships, and encouraging every child to fulfil their potential.

Well-Being

Well-Being is at the heart of our Nursery provision as each child is unique with their own needs and strengths.  Alongside daily relationship building, we provide weekly mindfulness and yoga sessions.  We encourage and help each child to share their emotions and express their needs as they learn to play, share and take turns.  We work closely with parents to support their child’s well-being.

Nourishing Minds

Nursery lays the foundations for all future learning and we endeavour to give all pupils the best possible start to their school life.  We plan a curriculum to develop curious and enthusiastic activities full of practical hands on learning with a focus on early Maths and Literacy skills.

Learning through Fun

We ensure that pupils have a wide variety of experiences which are meaningful to their own development and their growing understanding of the world around them.  Our pupils learn through new experiences, creating magic and enthusiasm to start their learning journey.  They enjoy creative fun, weekly cookery, growing in the allotment, Forest Fun, Drama, PE, Music, Welsh and RE.

What age can my child start in Nursery?

Pupils may begin the term after they turn 3 following two taster morning visits.

What time does school start?

Drop off is available from 8:00am and registration takes places at 8:40am.  Home time is at 3:40pm and After School Care is available at an extra charge until 6:00pm.

Does my child need to be toilet trained?

All children need to be fully toilet trained before starting Nursery although we do realise accidents may happen.

Do I have an option for part-time attendance?

Nursery pupils are able to attend on a part time basis normally recommended as 3 full days or 5 mornings as a minimum.  These days may be spread throughout the week but need to be consistent.

Are there any co-curricular clubs for Nursery pupils?

Boys and girls are able to attend Ballet lessons for a charge after school for 30 minutes once a week.  Other co-curricular clubs including peripatetic music lessons, will be available when your child begins R5 (Reception year).
