A Thrilling Season for DT!

What a season it’s been for the DT department! From the moment our current R12 students kicked off their F1 topic, excitement was through the roof—we were flooded with questions and ideas from the get-go! That enthusiasm only grew as our Dev and Pro teams launched their campaigns, working towards the highly anticipated "In-House" competition.

We were fortunate to have the support of our F1iS alumni—Blackout, Firestorm, and Red Dawn—who played a key role in preparing our teams. Kavel from Blackout, now studying engineering at Cambridge, gave an insightful session on physical testing and aerodynamics using the wind tunnel. George and Max expertly ran the competition, while Hani, Noah, and Rhys formed the engineering and scrutineering team, ensuring each car met the required specifications.

The competition was fierce, but in the end, Team TurboBlaze secured the top prize, earning the chance to represent SJC at the Regional competition. They were joined by Stealth (R13) in Dev Class and Silver Racing (R14) in Pro Class.

Regional Success

On March 6th, all three teams traveled to St Fagans, aiming to add to the DT department’s ever-growing silverware collection. The competition was tough—beyond racing their cars, teams had to deliver a verbal presentation, an enterprise pitch, and a detailed engineering explanation.

Our teams did us proud, bringing home an impressive set of trophies:
🏆 TurboBlaze – Best Verbal Presentation
🏆 Stealth – Best Engineering & Dev Class Regional Champions
🏆 Silver Racing – Best Sponsorship & Marketing (2nd place overall)

The National Finals

With just a short turnaround to refine their cars and portfolios, Stealth and Silver Racing headed to Sheffield on March 25th for the UK National Finals at the Magna Science Museum. Competing against top teams from across the country, nerves and excitement ran high as they vied for a coveted trophy—and a spot at the World Championships in Singapore.

After two intense days of competition, the teams anxiously awaited the results. While Silver Racing narrowly missed out on a trophy this time, Stealth won an award for their outstanding portfolios—an incredible achievement for their first time at Nationals!

Thank You!

A huge thank you to our sponsors, teachers, and EESW for their support and patience throughout this challenging but rewarding season. And of course, a special thanks to the F1 parents for their unwavering encouragement.

We couldn’t be prouder of all our teams—this season was anything but easy, yet they rose to the challenge.

See you on the grid in September! 🚀🏁
