What a year it has been for our F1 in Schools teams! Following the success of Blackout podiuming at World’s at the end of July, we started September with many teams hoping to follow in their footsteps! Entry class culminated with a terrific In-House competition that saw team Predator winning a place at Regionals. Alongside this, our three Dev and Pro teams were competing in Birmingham for the previous seasons Nationals. Again, all teams performed brilliantly with Firestorm winning a place to represent Wales at Worlds in September. The South Wales Regional Finals were held at the new Swansea Arena in March and our four teams, Predator, Airborne, Radeon and Red Dawn Racing all did us proud. The teams brought home 11 awards and all the Dev and Pro’s won places to compete at Nationals, after all gaining podium positions!
Alongside this, Firestorm continued to fundraise and develop their ideas in preparation for their trip to Singapore, whilst acting as mentors for the younger teams.
At the beginning of July, Airborne, Radeon and Red Dawn, alongside Dan and Kavel from Blackout, who were asked to become judges, travelled to Leeds.
We had a rather eventful journey, with the teams arriving at the hotel at 9.30pm whilst all the cars, pits and kits were stuck in road closure and arrived at the hotel at 1.30am! Although very tired, all the teams performed brilliantly. Their pits looked superb, the cars raced well and each team gained various nominations. On the final day, Airborne were awarded a “Judges' Choice” for their enthusiasm and excellent effort. In what was a very tough competition, they should be incredibly proud of their efforts. We are all thrilled with the teams this year, they really have overcome many difficulties and remained resilient throughout.
Good luck to Firestorm as they finalise their work throughout the holidays and prepare to travel to Singapore on the 7th of September.
If you are able to help, the team is still looking for sponsors and monetary donations to fund their Pit, Kit and car parts. Please do get in touch if you can indeed offer some support.
