On St David’s Day, following our pre-Eisteddfod fortnight, all pupils in R12-R14 gathered in the hall for a morning to celebrate Welsh culture and heritage with our annual Senior Eisteddfod! Pupils competed in a variety of competitions, from a house quiz to individual and group Welsh recitations. 

It was lovely to hear a full hall of pupils singing ‘Sosban Fach’ at the top of their voices, with St Davids taking 1st place in the House Choir Competition, whilst De La Salle secured the top spot in the R12 Group Recitation Competition with their clear diction and creative use of props! 

Notable individual winners were Holly J from De La Salle in the R13 Welsh Individual Recitation Competition, followed by Shravya P of Mostyn and Charlotte M of St David’s in second and third places respectively. In the R12 instrumental competitions, Annie Y of St David’s earned first prize, followed by Jahnavi B of DLS and Maya H, also of DLS. In the second of the musical competitions, Maneesha K of Bute earned first prize, followed by Sophia W of St David’s and Charlotte M, also of St Davids. The winning R14 musicians were Lara O of De La Salle in first place, Nikita P of Mostyn in second place, and Joanne S of Bute in third place; along with Alexandra D of De La Salle for her breathtaking solo vocal performance. The winning R15 musicians were Kushi S of Mostyn in first place, Cheyi W of Bute in second place, and Anika K of Mostyn in third place. 

St David’s claimed victory in the House Quiz, with their winning team of Noah D, Reece M, Adhavan N and Joshua O.

Our winning poets, as chosen by Mrs Kloosterman and the English Department were Anais M of Bute, Nikita P of Mostyn, and Anshul J of Bute.

Congratulations to our top point scorers from each house - Simra A of Bute, Soumiya S of De La Salle, Nikita P of Mostyn and Charlotte M of St David’s, but our overall top point scorer and bard of the 2023 St John’s College Eisteddfod was Sana A of Bute! Congratulations to everyone!

This year, our winning senior school house was St Davids, with a staggering 1115 points! Llongyfarchiadau!
