Our senior school chess squad faced Millfield in the regional final of the ECF (English Chess Federation) U19 Championship on Monday, 27th March. Victory in this fixture would guarantee a place at the national final in Nottingham in June.

Krishna L, R16, emerged the victor in his match and Giulio F, R13, turned a losing situation into a hard-fought draw to earn half a point. Sadly, our other four boards lost but not without some tough play.

Congratulations to Millfield and thank you for your visit to St John's. You all represented your school brilliantly.

Our chess squad now turns its focus to the 2024 championship and some friendly matches against local schools in the near future.
