Despite still being in Lockdown, the Junior School was determined to enjoy World Book Day. Many pupils dressed as their favourite book characters to come online for their lessons. The staff embraced the day too with a variety of costumes from Cruella de Vil to a fairy godmother, and even Snoopy put in several appearances during the day!
In the week leading up to World Book Day pupils had the opportunity to enter a house competition by sending in a photograph of themselves reading with members of their family. There were some beautiful photos, including Prajna reading to her baby sister, Iwan and family enjoying a story by the rugby posts and Charlotte Face Timing with her grandad. The winning house was De La Salle.
On Thursday 4th March, as well as wearing book character costumes, everyone celebrated the day by participating in various World Book Day events and activities. These ranged from learning from authors in their online Masterclasses, exploring some new books, learning how to be Earth Warriors and using the Peanuts cartoons as inspiration for drawing pupils’ own cartoons. Throughout the day the children were excited to talk about their costumes, their favourite books and give recommendations of books to read to other pupils. A highlight of the day was when R11 pupils presented the Fairy Tales they had been writing in English lessons through a Google Meet with the R8 children.
