R9 experienced an activity-filled day in Llancaiach Fawr on Tuesday, 4th June. We started with a tour of the manor house. We learnt that, despite being a large house, the manor would fit into the Lewis’ House in St Fagan’s nine and a half times or our local Tredegar House four or five times!
Akhi was chosen as a musketeer to wear a heavy buff coat made from deer hide. He was weighed down wearing the gunpowder and then had to try to carry the 42-inch barrel gun! Despite being offered eight pennies a day with clothing, armour, food and 2 flagons beer we didn’t accept job offers to wear over 70lbs of armour!! However, we were fascinated to learn that they would drum the coded orders to the soldiers.
R9 had such fun playing Tudor games such as “Drop the handkerchief” and “Foxes and Chickens”. They are keen to play them in the yard in the sun over the next few weeks!
The day ended with a court trial. Nikhil was a great sport as the accused fishmonger and even sat in the stocks as he wasn’t able to pay the fine! Luckily, Haisam, the constable, was there to control the crowd!!
