R8 had a lovely trip to the Iron Age roundhouses in St Fagan’s today.
We were lucky enough to feel a replica of a spearhead and a sickle. We learnt about the Iron Age blacksmiths smelting the iron ore before hammering the bloom to make tools and weapons.
We were fascinated by the decorations on the shields that we saw. One had a wild boar on it that reflected the ferocity, strength and power of the boar. We were also able to ask some of our questions, such as:
Is it true that the Celts took elephants to battles?
What sport did the Celts play?
A very busy morning that will be really helpful when we’re back in the classroom. Well done, R8!
