R9 had a great day in Cilfynydd as part of their Geography studies. It was a fun-filled day with plenty of activities to keep them busy. First they “flew off to Uganda” to experience life in an African village. This involved a long walk to the river to collect water. Once back at the village the children used the water in their huts for a variety of household tasks, including looking after the animals, cooking and washing.
After lunch, there came an informative workshop about the Water Cycle. The children took part in experiments which explained evaporation, condensation and precipitation. This was followed by a keenly competitive team race to collect water via buckets, sponges and tarpaulin mountains!
To finish the day we all went to the pond armed with nets, water trays and magnifying glasses in order to take part in some pond dipping. Back in the classroom the children studied the creatures they had caught under microscopes and were pleased to find there was no pollution in the pond water.
