On Saturday morning, Team Blackout arrived bright and early at school to compete at the F1 in Schools National Finals.
Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, the competition was all virtual this year, with teams having to send their cars to HQ to race. The team looked very smart in their team polo shirts and custom Blackout face masks as they positioned the webcam ready for their interviews.
We were very excited to see the “Blackout Mobile” picked out for its innovative engineering in the opening show discussion.
The team raced against AERO, a team from Whitley Bay High School. Both cars had very similar statistics but unfortunately, the Blackout Mobile wasn’t as fast as we had hoped and we lost the race. The team were not put off, and spoke eloquently and enthusiastically about their journey with Tom and Georgina the interview panel.
After a pizza lunch, the team nervously waited for the awards ceremony. Nominations for a few awards resulted in the team winning the Nationals prize for the best Pit Stop – a truly deserved trophy as their presentation was outstanding!
Unfortunately, we missed out on a podium place this year, but Team Blackout is definitely the team to watch as they start this season as Pros!
In what has been the most difficult season of F1iS so far, I could not be more proud of Team Blackouts unstoppable determination and positivity.
Go TEAM BLACKOUT!!!!!! Good luck in Pro Class.
